STEP ONE: Dream Big

Forget being practical! At least for right now. To begin, just let yourself dream. Reach for the stars and don't censure what you'd like to have in a dream town.

Spend a little quiet time, and in your notebook answer the following questions.

  • If you were writing a novel about your life what setting would you choose? Describe the town. Name a place if you'd like, but more importantly, be specific in your description…what would it look like? Feel like? What would the weather, community, people...be like?
  • Describe a day in your life in this town. Have fun with this. Begin from the moment you awaken and follow yourself through a typical day all the way to bedtime. Pay attention to the details.

When you've finished your descriptions journal on these questions:

  • In what ways does your current hometown fit your image of a dream town?
  • What is your current hometown lacking?
  • Is there anything you could do to enhance your experience of your current location so it more closely matches your vision?
  • What one most important thing would you look for in a new hometown that you don't have currently?
